NorthStar90 Capture Petoskey Tournament Championship

NorthStar90 took first place honors in the Under 16 girls division at the 24th Annual Petoskey Soccer Tournament over the June 17-18 weekend. In its first match, the team defeated the Gaylord Fire 8-0. Goals were scored by Becca Madison (Charlevoix), Emily Carefoot (TC Central), Kelly Korbel (TC Central), Becca Sage (TC West), Alyssa Harrold (Petoskey), Katie Fought (Petoskey)and Emma Berger (TC Central) (2). In the 90+ degree heat in the afternoon NorthStar defeated Clarkston Shadows90 2-0 with second half goals by Kelsey Fagen (TC West) and Emma Berger.

On Sunday, NorthStar bested the Petoskey Breakers 4-1. First half goals were tallied by Alyssa Harrold, Kelsey Fagen and Becca Madison. Madison also scored in the second half. In the championship match, most of which was played during a downpour, NorthStar met up again with Clarkson. Goals scored by Becca Sage (2), Emily Carefoot and Katie Fought led the northern Michigan girls to the 4-1 victory. The weekends’ goal tending duties were shared by Charlotte Stowe (Suttons Bay) and Emily Entz (TC West). Strong defensive play from Lana Gentry (TC Central), Brittany O’Brien (TC Central) and Kelly Spencer (Petoskey) held total scoring against NorthStar to 2 goals for the tournamet. Midfielder Maggie Rogers (TC Central) created opportunities for the attack which was joined by the strong play of Emily Hubbell (Glen Lake).

NorthStar90 next heads to London, England and Copenhagen, Denmark to play international friendly matches against top club teams. Between those games the team will play in the Gothia Cup in Sweden. NorthStar90 is part of the NorthStar Soccer Club which is a division of Traverse Bay Area Youth Soccer.


NorthStar90 Advances to Quarter Finals of 2006 MSYSA State Cup Tournament!


NorthStar90 clinched the second of two wild card spots to advance to the State Cup Quarter Finals for the first time in two attempts.  They will continue their quest for State Cup glory with a match against the top seeded and defending Champions Gators 90 Orange on October 1 at 10:00 am at Saginaw Soccer Club complex in Saginaw Michigan. 

NorthStar90 advanced from the preliminaries on 6 points with a +3 goals for/goals against differential.  This resulted from a 1-0 win over Premier Division 1 West Michigan Fire - avenging a 3-0 loss from Fall 2004 league play -, and a 5-2 win over WAZA - after being down 1-2 at the half.  The preliminay round started for NorthStar90 with a 0-1 loss to Vardar on a penalty kick.


NorthStar90 Capture Global Tournament Championship.

NorthStar90 won the U16 Gold Division of the Global Soccer Tournament held on the campus of Oakland University September 10th and 11th.  The team duplicated its championship result from the 2004 tournament.
