The purpose of the NorthStar Scholarship fund is to provide financial aid to NorthStar players to help cover the cost of uniforms, registration fees and some travel expenses to team camps and major tournaments.
The funds will be managed in the following manner:
- The Scholarship funds are to be kept in a special purpose fund of NorthStar Soccer Inc.
- No funds will be distributed directly to the player but will be transferred to the proper account to offset the player fees.
- The number of monetary awards given will be based on the amount of available scholarship funds minus $100. A minimum of $100 will always remain in the account.
- Funds may be distributed at anytime during the fall or spring seasons.
The player must meet the following criteria in order to be awarded financial aid:
- The Scholarship Fund application must be completed.
- Parents must provide the first two pages of their last two years of federal tax returns
- The player must contribute a minimum of 25% of the total NorthStar Soccer Inc and NorthStar Soccer team expenses. The player contribution increases as the level of need decreases.
- The determination for need will be based on the most current Federal Poverty Level figures, by family size, and using a multiplier of 200%, 250% or 300%. Monetary awards given will be based on the following percentage levels.
200% of poverty level up to 75% of stated player costs
250% of poverty level up to 50% of stated player costs
300% of poverty level up to 25% of stated player costs
Awards:
All scholarship awards will be determined by the NorthStar Scholarship committee. All applications will be reviewed within 30 days of submission.
